Why I Don't Drink Coffee Everyday

I am definitely guilty of a having a latte or two during the weekend. It’s almost like I look forward to café hopping. However, when I was younger I would never drink coffee. As I got older I started to wonder what it was about coffee that made people pay ANY amount to have it. It brought me to a memory of when I was a little girl.

Growing up, I couldn’t understand why my mom would drink  coffee EVERYDAY with EVERY meal. I would ask my mom how she could drink the same thing all the time. She would simply reply, “I’m used to it". So of course as a curious little kid I wanted to try it. When I took my first sip, I looked at her like she was crazy! It was the nastiest thing I had ever tasted.

However, as I started to work and go to school I began to discover the beauty of coffee. I started to discover lattes and cafe o’lays and all the milky combinations. It’s so easy to get caught up in caffeinated world. After I started looking at my bank statements and how much I would spend on MAYBE 2 coffees a week, I decided that I didn’t want to make it habit. So I spent many years drinking Green Tea.

Why tea? I always heard people complain about coffee headaches and learned about the way it dehydrated your body. I also noticed that it was very pricey, so I decided to treat coffee as a “treat” rather than a daily thing. I also really enjoyed that I was getting my H20 in from tea. Tea is such a great alternative to get you going. For the same price of ONE cup of coffee you can get a BOX of tea that will last you for weeks! Let’s not forget about all those great health benefits! The fun thing about tea is that there are many flavors and combinations you can try and they are almost to NO calories!

I say all this to say that I try to be as healthy as I can be. As much as I LOVE a nice hot cup of coffee, I try to limit myself and give my body a break every now and then. I also do weeks or months without caffeine to make sure that my body does not rely on caffeine to be alert.

Here are some of my favorite occasions to have coffee: when visiting my family, hanging with friends, and Sunday brunch with my husband! OH- and payday!
